Tryst collects as little as it can. Here is exactly what we keep and why.

What stays on your device

Your age confirmation and your settings are stored in your browser's local storage on your own device. Clearing your browser data removes them.

Your answers and progress

What you circle on The Menu is saved in our database (hosted on Supabase) under a random private key. The key lives in your browser and in the link you can copy from the page; we never store the key itself, only a hash of it. Without an email we do not know who you are. Anyone who has the link can open the list, so share it only with your partner. "Start over" on a page deletes that page's answers everywhere the link is used.

Email, if you add one

You can attach an email to your record so you can get it back on another phone. We use it for one thing: sending you your link when you ask for it. It is never sold, never used for ads, never used for newsletters, and never shown to anyone. Your answers stay with that email until you ask us to delete them.

To stop link mails being abused, each request is stored for one day with the email it was sent to and a hashed form of the requesting IP address (the address itself is not kept). Those rows are deleted automatically after a day.

Two phones

When two people fill The Menu or play a story on two phones, the Site uses a real-time channel (Supabase Realtime) to pass taps between the two browsers as they happen. On The Menu the same taps are also saved to the record described above. For the stories and the Boundaries checklists, the live session is not kept and nothing leaves your phones.

What we do not collect

We do not require an account. We do not collect your name or payment information through the Site. We do not sell or share what you circle, ever. We count anonymous totals of which lines couples say yes to, with nothing tied to a person.

Hosting and logs

The Site is hosted on a third-party platform (Vercel) which may automatically record standard technical server logs (such as IP address and request data) for security and reliability, subject to that provider's own privacy practices.

Analytics

We use PostHog to see how the Site is used: which pages are opened, which lines get answered, where people stop. This is product analytics, not advertising; the data is not sold or shared with advertisers.

Cookies

The Site does not use advertising cookies. It uses local storage for the values described above, and PostHog sets its own cookie to tell one visit from the next.

Deleting your data

To have your record removed from our database, write to hello@trystgame.com from the email on the record, or include your private link. It is gone within a few days. Clearing your browser's site data removes everything stored on your device.
